Absolutely excited about the new features and they certainly improve upon where our old Watchdogs have had issues in the past.

This looks like a great upgrade. When will it be available for purchase?

Will there be a trade in option to upgrade from gen1 to Gen 2. ?

I’ve owned a 30 amp Gen 1 for about 5 years. It has worked extremely well. Sometimes a bit too well. On the last two trips I had to bypass the EMS. Once, because of intermittent low voltage (103V). The other because of a non-bonded neutral/ground. My Gen one is hardwired, bypassing it was a pain the first time. The second time was a little easier because of the prior experience. And I know, we buy these devices to identify and protect our rigs from the issues I encountered. But sometimes you simply have no choice but to bypass the unit. That being said, I only have two complaints about the Gen 1 Hughes Autoformers Watch Dog EMS and one comment. Not being able to bypass the unit when you want or need to. And having to power off the unit to reset it and restore power under some circumstances. Maybe the new Power On/Off feature will correct that. But I do question how you will do that remotely if powering off the EMS also powers off your RV’s WiFi connection.

We use the GEN 1 in our bay (my preference). We use other Hughes products (like the awesome Autoformer) so I originally purchased a GEN 1 because it was from Hughes, whom I trust, and it fit the bill for a product I was looking for -- a digital meter that I could reset (to track my use in certain locations that had meters I didn't exactly trust). My only real complaint with it has been the poor Bluetooth signal. We have to be all the way in the back bedroom (above the power bay) to get any Bluetooth reading. I always wished the signal could reach elsewhere. WiFi to the rescue in the GEN 2. This might be what I have been looking for.

So I was finally able to scan the QR code, because I was scanning the code from the box not the device itself. Lesson learned. But then when I launch the app, I see the watchdog for 3 seconds and then the app closes. What the heck???

Why does the APP need the GPS to be on? That's really annoying. I wont be using it.

Why is the GPS needed? I won't be using the app for this reason.

On their website "Our commitment to you is complete customer satisfaction, 100% of the time" I'm not happy and they could care less. Read on: I have two of the expensive pwd30 EPO units. The first one I cracked the case while traveling through Alaska. I needed protection so I ordered a replacement and had it delivered to a campground. When I looked to purchase a replacement case I was told "unique identifiers for the app and QR code are linked to the case" so no replacement cases are available. I have a $200 piece of junk now. I wish I'd know this before I'd purchased the replacement. I thought I'd have a spare, but NOPE the company can't provide a replacement case due to a label. Be careful opening the case to replace the spike protectors. You could have paid money for replacements and then striped a screw hole or something and can't get a new case! The second unit failed while on a two plus month trip to Canada's east cost. The unit worked in one campground and upon arriving at the next campground wouldn't supply power even though the power was well withing limits. Calling I learned they would replace the unit under warranty, but I must stay in one place at least 10 days for them to ship it to me. They sell to a mobile population, what the hell. I had to live without my protection for half of my trip. I'm so glad I didn't decided on the hardwired version. What a nightmare that would have been. It would have had to have deinstalled or wired around to get power. At least with the mobile unit you can just unplug it and run direct without protect. I think I'll be looking for a replacement product with better reliability and support. I should have gone with a China version from Amazon for less than half the cost!

Why hasn't TheMadGeek question below, been answered? This is a good question and even if you have to open it to visually inspect, what does one look for? MOVs, Varistors, Diodes, Capacitors and the like often fail and provide no visible evidence.

We do not track anyone. We do not sell your information either. Prior to Android 12.0, location was required to search for nearby BLE devices. We are not selling or tracking anyone in anyway. The units now use Bluetooth 5.0 which is a stronger module than our previous 4.2 module and thus you should have a much better range. Bluetooth 4.2 was not bad, it is the same module used on an iPhone X, but 5.0 is the standard now.

I’m at 30amp shore, i have a 50amp autoformer booster, a 30amp power watchdog surge protector, and my TT is 30amp. “What adapter or adapters part# ______ do i need to connect the 50amp autoformer to the rest of the 30amp pieces?” Thanks!

Be aware if you have to have the GPS ON YOUR PHONE, YOU ARE BEING TRACKED. THE UNIT WILL NOT WORK WHE THE GPS IS DISABLED.

Bluetooth is crappy, very short distance. I got a notice to update the app. I did, now you need Bluetooth connected AND GPS ENABLED. NOW THEY TRACK YOUR MOVEMENTS. lookin for another one. THEY NEED NOT KNOW MY WHERE ABOUT AND PROBABLY SELLING MINE AND YOUR INFO. GOODBYE HUGHES POWER WATCHDOG.

Wondering if we could hard wire the portable? Looks like you can remove the wiring and replace with spec 50a cord to hard wired into our new Victron inverter... yes?

How do you know IF it needs replacing? Do you have to open the unit and visually inspect it?

How much does the module cost for a 50amp?

One suggestion when you you hard wire a unit in and mounted to a wall the way they are intended why wouldn't the removable cover be the outside one to change the surge module

I use an inverter generator to run my Travel Trailer. When the compressor kicks on I know there is a voltage dip. Can I run an autoformer off of my generator to assist with that dip or would it even help?

junk, worthless if it doesn't protect you from a surge. how can you call it a protector when it's really an expensive monitor. waste of money!!

I used to put my surge guard with high and low voltage shutoff after the autoformer and it would shut down for high voltage.

What causes the watchdog epo to flash white and not pass power or show any power and not connect to app.. even though I know I have good power at the source?

What does a flashing white bulldog light mean .. no connection to the app and no line voltage reading. Sometimes my Hughes 30amp epo will flash white .. and won't pass power through or connect to the app. ?

My biggest complaint so far about this unit is the range of the Bluetooth. Whether I'm inside or outside my unit it maybe has a range of 20 ft. Might want to look at upgrading to a stronger Bluetooth transmitter in the future.
